Silicon Valley–based fund advances MISUMI Group’s $1B Global Investment Vision and gives founders day-one access to a Fortune 500–caliber global manufacturing supply chain

OAKLAND, CA and TOKYO, Japan – September 17, 2026 – MISUMI Americas, a specification-driven sourcing partner for mechanical components and assemblies, today announced the launch of MISUMI Ventures, a $50 million venture fund investing in early-stage companies at the intersection of frontier hardware, robotics, aerospace, medtech, clean energy, eVTOL, automation and industrial AI. MISUMI Group Inc. is the fund’s sole limited partner. MISUMI Ventures is structured as an independent Silicon Valley general partner / limited partner fund and expects to make its first investment by the end of 2026.
The fund is a direct extension of the $1 billion (150 billion JPY) Global Investment Vision that MISUMI Group announced earlier this year to fund organic and inorganic growth, with significant investment directed to the United States. MISUMI Ventures gives MISUMI Americas a permanent, institutional presence in the North American deep-tech ecosystem and gives the founders building in it a manufacturing partner from first prototype through volume production.
MISUMI Ventures will build a portfolio of 20 to 30 seed and early stage companies, with initial investments typically between $500,000 and $1.5 million and capital reserved for follow-on rounds. The fund plans to invest alongside leading Silicon Valley venture firms rather than lead rounds in its early years. Its focus is weighted toward frontier hardware and automation, and frontier AI and industrial software, with a smaller opportunistic allocation.
A New Chapter in MISUMI’s American Expansion
MISUMI Group has spent more than 60 years building precision into the world’s factories. MISUMI Ventures extends that role upstream, to the companies inventing what those factories will build next.
“Our Global Investment Vision is a commitment to be where industrial innovation actually happens, and today that is increasingly in North America,” said Arata Shimizu, Representative Director and President of MISUMI Group Inc. “MISUMI Ventures lets us support the companies defining the next era of manufacturing early in their growth, and to learn from them. It is a long-term investment in our customers, our technology and our relevance.”
Manufacturing Support as an Investment Thesis
Hardware companies rarely fail because the idea was wrong. They fail in the gap between a working prototype and repeatable, high-quality volume production. MISUMI Ventures is designed around closing that gap. Portfolio companies gain direct access to MISUMI Americas’ standard, configurable and custom manufacturing continuum, spanning more than 30 million standard parts, 22 company-owned factories, 42 million custom parts delivered, 40 million standard product variations, 4,000 sourcing partners and a five-region global network across the U.S., China, Asia, Europe, and Japan.
“We have watched a generation of talented hardware teams get stuck at the transition to production. That is a supply chain problem, and it is the one problem we are unusually good at solving,” said Dave Evans, President and Chief Executive Officer of MISUMI Americas. “MISUMI Ventures is not a passive check. When we invest, a founder gets an engineering and supply chain team that can quote in minutes, deliver parts in a day, and scale them to thousands of units without changing vendors. That is the most valuable thing we can put on a cap table.”
For portfolio companies, MISUMI Ventures is designed to offer:
Full mechanical BOM support: standard, configurable and custom-fabricated parts sourced through a single integrated digital workflow.
- A de-risked path to production: automated design-for-manufacturing feedback, and ISO 9001:2015, AS9100 and ISO 13485 certified manufacturing.
- Supply chain resilience: multi-region manufacturing across five countries under a single quality management system.
- A long-term strategic partner: a patient investor with a decade-long fund horizon and deep operating experience in industrial manufacturing.
Built as a Real Fund
MISUMI Ventures is deliberately structured as an independent fund rather than a corporate balance-sheet investment vehicle. A dedicated management company employs the investment team, a general partner entity holds investment authority, and the fund itself holds all portfolio equity. An investment committee combining fund partners and MISUMI executives governs capital deployment, with authority to execute term sheets in days.
“Founders and co-investors can tell the difference between a fund and a corporate development budget,” said Eddie Chen, Managing Partner of MISUMI Ventures and Chief Financial Officer of MISUMI Americas. “We built MISUMI Ventures the way the best corporate funds are built — separate entities, real governance, market-standard economics, and the autonomy to move at the speed a competitive seed round demands. That structure is what earns us a seat in the rounds we want to be in.”
MISUMI Ventures’s founding partners are Eddie Chen, Dave Evans, and Nate Evans, who leads MISUMI AI. The fund is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area and is hiring additional investment staff.
